The situation at Year End appears much stronger and the transfer will take place when the share value is maximised. 2: Treasurer’s Retirement! 2026 will be my final year acting as Treasurer of Wheldrake PCC. My reasons are simple and I hope that the PCC will understand and accept these: By the time the 2026 Accounts are completed and presented, I will be rapidly approaching 80 and, whilst I hope to remain physically and mentally fit, there is an increasing risk that my sudden incapacity would create real difficulties for the PCC. To protect the PCC’s financial position going forward, it seems to me prudent to appoint a new Treasurer or make suitable alternative arrangements during the year. At the end of 2026, I will have been Treasurer for more than 14 years! The experience I continue to accumulate means that an early replacement appointment provides time to pass more of this on, to enable a replacement to hit the ground running in 2027 – although it is not my intention to leave either a new appointee or the PCC to struggle if this is not possible within the timeframe. I remain committed to supporting the PCC beyond the end of 2027 but not on an extended permanent basis, since I will continue to support both East Cottingwith and Sutton where financial management is far less demanding and time consuming! The last 14 years have not been easy going given the increased financial management for two major building projects and ultimate Raithwaite investment losses; we have also faced Covid and interregnum. We have been fortunate to have the financial muscle that has enabled us to punch well above our weight in supporting the overall FWO offer and other churches in the benefice. However, we are now returning to what, I hope, is a more normal level of financial activity and complexity, which means the task facing a new Treasurer should be less demanding. 3: Allocation of Clergy and Administrative Expenditure: John Wilson, Treasurer of St. Helen’s, Escrick has been in touch with me to move the issue of a fair allocation of expenses forward. I hope to meet with him before the CPCC and share the numbers for the past two years, so we can reach some consensus about what is reasonable and likely to be acceptable. Our position seems clear, As our financial position has weakened, we can no longer continue to finance the majority of costs for the services we all share across the benefice and partnership. It is probable that we still hold higher reserves than our partner churches. However, although we have previously been able to draw on these to secure initiatives like Multiply and to make much more substantial contributions to FWO than our net income justifies, we are now approaching a stage when we must temper generosity with realism and refocus on our own church’s priorities and responsibilities.

5/26

Fund Raising The PCC discussed The event that contribute to our fund raising Mrs Cater agreed to lead the fete preparation.
